Dogs earned the nickname “man’s best friend” in part because they’re so trusting and loyal. But one puppy’s misplaced trust almost cost him his life.

Yesterday animal control officer Sharon Norton of Brookhaven, a small city in Mississippi located about 60 miles south of Jackson, responded to a tip about a dog abandoned on the side of a remote road with a recliner chair and tossed TV. As she drove up, she told TODAY, “I felt sick to my stomach.”

Dog Owners Get More Exercise

Dog owners spent close to 300 minutes each week walking with their dogs, about 200 more minutes of walking than people without dogs.

Woman accused of pushing her dog into lake, watching it drown

MERRIMACK, N.H. — A New Hampshire woman is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge after witnesses said she pushed her 11-year-old golden retriever into a lake and watched it drown, according to Merrimack police.

On June 8, police said they were dispatched to Wasserman Park at 7:34 p.m. to assist the fire department with a dog that had drowned in Naticook Lake.
