WICHITA, KAN. (AP) — A 20-year-old Wichita man who intentionally ran over a dog several times has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Cole Ford Carter was sentenced Monday after earlier pleading guilty to cruelty to animals, criminal threat and a misdemeanor criminal carrying of a weapon.

The Wichita Eagle reports Carter killed 13-year-old Benji in December 2018 after the dog escaped through a fence while his owners were visiting Wichita.

Man Allegedly Killed Mom’s Dog After She Said No Sex In The House

A Texas man enraged that his mom wouldn’t let him have sex in the house picked up her dog and threw it so hard that its heart burst, killing it, according to news reports.

James Garcia, 39, who has lived with his parents in San Antonio on and off for four years, asked his mom for permission to bring a woman into the home to have sex in his bedroom on Oct. 24, News 4 San Antonio reported.

When the mom refused to allow the woman in, Garcia allegedly hurled the dog, Roxy, 18 feet across the home, according to court records obtained by the outlet.

Police: KY Man Left Starved Puppies To Eat Dead Dog

39-year-old Lamarrick Sanders pleaded not guilty Friday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say he neglected and starved his dogs, some of which resorted to eating a dead dog.

News outlets report 39-year-old Lamarrick Sanders pleaded not guilty Friday. He’s expected to appear in court Nov. 14 and has been in custody on unrelated charges since May.

Armed Suspects Steal Man’s Dog in Northeast DC

D.C. police are searching for two suspects who stole a dog at gunpoint in the Deanwood area of Northeast D.C. Saturday afternoon.

A man told police he was walking his dog, a red nose pit bull, in the 800 block of Division Avenue NE when the driver of a burgundy 2017 Kia Forte asked if he was selling the dog, according to a police report.

Jail Time Sought For Man In Death Of Girlfriend’s Dog

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man has been convicted of felony aggravated cruelty to animals in the death of his girlfriend’s Yorkshire terrier last year.

York County prosecutors said jurors last week deliberated for less than an hour Thursday before convicting 53-year-old Earl Carl Allen in the April 2018 death of 9-year-old Leo.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Justin Roberts said he will seek incarceration of the defendant when he is sentenced Jan. 29.

Mississippi Man Convicted Of Felony Dogfighting Charges

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man has been convicted of felony dogfighting charges, two years after law enforcement officers found a dogfighting operation on his property in Adams County.

A jury on Thursday found Tommie Queen guilty of three of the nine counts he faced. Circuit Judge Debra Blackwell sentenced him to nine years in prison — the maximum of three years for each of the charges on which he was convicted, the Natchez Democrat reported. Several States Move to Ban Sales of Pets in Stores

HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE in the window? That question may become just an old song title instead of a hopeful customer inquiry, if a trend continues against selling certain animals in pet stores.

Maryland recently became the second state to ban retail pet stores from selling puppies and kittens, a move supporters of the legislation say will help discourage “puppy mills” that breed dogs in inhumane conditions and euthanize the animals when they are no longer able to breed. The law follows a similar one passed last year in California, though the Golden State will allow shops to sell cats, dogs and rabbits that came from shelters and rescue centers.
